Martial Arts, as defined by Wikipedia: “are codified systems and traditions of combat practices, which are practiced for a number of reasons: as self-defense, military and law enforcement applications, mental and spiritual development; as well as entertainment and the preservation of a nation's intangible cultural heritage.”
People often ask us the different between the different schools of Martial Arts. Here are a few differences:
1. Karate: In Karate, the focus is on how to strike and block as well as the different hand techniques of fighting. This type of combat comes from Japan. Students can use weapons.
2. Taekwando-(TKD) The focus here is more on kicking, improving your kicking, and the use of kicks. Taekwando is from Korea, Students can use weapons.
3. Mixed Martial Arts-(MMA) This is a mix of grappling, striking, and defenses against both. Students in Mixed Martial Arts don’t use weapons.
At Pursuit of Mastery, we teach: a mixed martial arts system of martial arts from all over the world. It is a unique blend of skills from the world's most effective and dynamic martial arts styles. American boxing and Muai Thai kickboxing are the foundation of our stand up combat system. We use Taekwondo for its dynamic kicks and traditional discipline. Our self defense weapons system of Escrima uses sticks and blades and is derived from the Philippines. We use jujitsu for its submissions and MMA striking techniques to maximize our advantage when combat goes to the ground. Our extracurricular program offers Xtreme Performance weapons training in Katana, Nunchaku, Kama, Asian Broad Sword, and Bo Staff.
